How to Take a Proper Measurement With Tenovi’s Cellular-Enabled Pulse Oximeter

how to use a cellular-enabled pulse oximeter

Pulse oximeters provide blood oxygen and heart rate data. The FDA-cleared Tenovi cellular-enabled pulse oximeter (POx) allows healthcare providers to track patients’ vital signs remotely, and it is an easy-to-use solution for patients. This article explains the many benefits of pulse oximetry, how to set up and use the Tenovi POx, and how to take proper measurements.

Remote Pulse Oximetry

A pulse oximeter is a medical device that measures blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) level and heart rate. Most people have a normal pulse oximeter reading between 95% and 100%. Remote pulse oximetry monitoring helps physicians identify symptoms and complications between office visits.

For example, notifications can be set through APIs to automatically alert the clinician for quick intervention if a patient’s blood oxygen saturation level is below a set threshold. Catching symptoms early can aid in prompt treatment. Furthermore, a 2022 review published in the Lancet revealed that monitoring COVID-19 patient pulse oximetry levels at home was deemed safe and could help pinpoint signs of condition deterioration.

An RPM pulse oximeter device is commonly used to manage the following health conditions.

Tenovi Cellular-Enabled Pulse Oximeter

Tenovi’s 4G cellular-enabled pulse oximeter is already paired so that patients can use it immediately. The RPM device offers a one-step, accurate, seamless recording that transmits data wirelessly to the Tenovi cloud, which pairs easily with preferred software systems. Physicians can view the measurements in the Tenovi RPM dashboard or their proprietary platform.

A cellular-enabled RPM device does not require Bluetooth or WiFi. It connects to most U.S. cellular carriers. The device automatically switches to an available network if a network provider is unavailable.

Key features of the Tenovi cellular-enabled pulse oximeter include the following.

  • Measures oxygen saturation and pulse rate
  • FDA-cleared
  • SpO2 accuracy: 70%-100% or +/- 2%
  • Pulse accuracy: 25-250 bpm or +/- 2 bpm
  • Portable

How to Use the Tenovi Cellular-Enabled Pulse Oximeter

Below are tips for using the Tenovi pulse oximeter and the proper pulse oximeter placement.

  • Remove the pull tab from the battery compartment to power the device.
  • Insert one finger completely into the measurement section of the Oximeter with your fingernail pointing up towards the screen.
  • Press the power button on the oximeter.
  • Keep your finger in the oximeter for 20 seconds.
  • Wait 20 seconds. Once the measurement has been completed, the device will lock the reading and transmit the data over the cell network.
  • “Success” will display when the reading has been transmitted.
